A Snapshot of the Whipped Press
There is nothing that the Biden administration tells them to lap up that they won't.
Puke.
Just like that the media received the signal and went right into full tongue-bath mode. Dr. Jill Biden wore a jacket that read “Love” on the back to England. What a change from the last first lady who wore a “Let the children all die” coat or something.
We could spend all day talking about the difference in coverage of the two first ladies, but we won’t.
Remember Melania wore heels?
Needless to say, the White House Press Corps is here for the “Love” jacket. When symbolism is more valuable in our culture than reality and with our media only looking to document what reaffirms their already-established narratives, the coat was a layup.
So obviously allied emotionally with this administration is the press corps that questions posed to Press Secretary Jen Psaki often contain an embedded message of loyalty as was the case when New York Times reporter Katie Rogers began her question with, “Republicans and conservatives are going crazy on Twitter.”
The message was clear. Katie herself wasn’t curious why Kamala Harris - charged with handling the crisis at the border - hadn’t visited the border, but she was compelled to make the ask because the conservative crazies were making noise on social media. If you are looking for lengthy pieces on Joe Biden’s bicycling, Katie is on the job.
But the real, frothy stuff is reserved for Dr. Jill, as evidenced by Bloomberg’s own Jennifer Jacobs who could not contain herself when the First Lady sat in the big chair on Air Force One.
This is the White House Press Corps at work. If their work product looks identical to the work product of the White House communications staff that is because it is. The days of the job of a journalist being to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable,” are over.
Listen to them coo.
Imagine knowing, in the age of the racial reckoning and increased racial tensions that the son of the president had been recorded repeatedly using the N-word and not asking the administration about it? You’d need to be enlisted in a cause that is certainly not journalism.
And there you go.
