Winsome Sears will be the first black woman elected president of the United States.
She is that good.
She believes in the American dream with a passion unmatched by anyone in our politics and when she speaks about this great democracy she does it, rightfully, with a tone of personal possession.
This is her country. It belongs to her. She does not merely inhabit it but also prizes it.
Sears is a mother and a wife. She served in the United States Marines. Sadly she has also known tragedy losing her 27-year-old daughter and two grandchildren in a car accident in 2012.
But she is an unapologetic optimist and that was on full display last night during her victory speech.
"What you are looking at is the American dream," she roared to the crowd.
“I am not even first-generation American,” she continued. “When I joined the Marine Corps I was still a Jamaican. But this country had done so much for me I was willing, willing, to die for this country.”
Every word she spoke was delivered with seriousness and sobriety and at the same time, she was whimsical.
“It’s a historic night, yes it is but I didn’t run to make history. I just wanted to leave it better than I found it,” she declared.
When Fox News host Steve Doocy asked her how she pulled out her incredible victory she quipped, “It was a God thing, Steve. What else can I tell you.”
I know we’re a little far out but I believe that someday another “God thing” will put Winsome Sears in the White House.
Without a change to the Constitution, Winsome Sears can never be President. The answer why is in this column. I know this is old, but I just read it, and wrong things bug me
