Kamala Harris has Reimagined the Border Crisis
Now that the long weekend is over it's time to ask what exactly she is doing.
Where is she?
Vice President Kamala Harris was tasked with fixing our Southern Border crisis three months ago but has been utterly AWOL.
When she was asked about the crisis last month she slithered away from the matter and instead redrew the question:
“Well let’s first talk about what it is. Um. You know, I come at this issue from the perspective that most people don’t want to leave home. They don’t want to leave their grandparents. They don’t want to leave the place where they grew up. Where they speak the language, where they know the culture. The place that is home.”
It was her way of saying that she intended to tackle the issue by engaging in conceptual dialogues with parties in Mexico and Central America but she, herself was not going down to visit no Rio Grande.
She wouldn’t budge.
So intransigent was she that a couple of weeks after being given border duties the White House revised the focus of her role as dealing with the border crisis’ “root causes.”
Harris was chosen as the border fixer "because she's the most qualified person to do it, to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle, and the countries that can help, need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border," Joe Biden had said at the time.
Now CNN is reporting that upon being assigned border duties Team Harris was immediately torqued off.
Of course she is. Her expertise is in being a political candidate, not a project manager or leader of men. She has no idea what to do and her political danger sense tells her that if she is associated with the chaos at the border, Republicans will use it against her in 2024.
If it doesn’t involve the border, what is actually involved in “stemming the movement of so many folks,” you might ask. Well, last week the White House announced that Harris was launching a “Call to Action” for the U.S. government as well as American and international businesses to make “significant commitments” of our resources to economic development in Central America.
According to the press release, this will “send a signal of hope” to the region and “sustainably address the root causes of migration.” This is perfect for Kamala because it allows her to skip getting bogged down in operational minutia, while spending our money, issuing celebratory press releases, and going to ribbon cuttings. Who cares if they’re in the Northern Triangle instead of the Rust Belt?
That sucks if you’re a kid in a cage but Kamala didn’t get into this racket to play Peace Corps, she was brought on because she solved some problems for the Biden presidential ticket.
All she has to be is a woman of color and she is doing her job. The old man can muse about her being supremely qualified to fix the situation on the ground all he wants, but he’s got no way to make her do anything and she knows it.
Yes, there is a Biden Administration, but there also is a Harris Administration and it is up and running and the re-election campaign is afoot.
Co-President Harris will be making visits to Guatemala and Mexico in the coming days and will be flying right over the border to do it, where illegal crossings are at a 20-year high, but no matter.
This mission is about Harris appearing in photo ops as a serious statesman in order to fill out her presidential resume.
May the tired, poor, huddled masses at the border be damned. The Kamala Harris Project is underway.
She’s a disgrace. We might not be able to get out of the hole they will be digging for the next 3 years.
