When actress, Patricia Arquette, I mean - “Actress • Activist • Troublemaker” according to her Twitter profile - Patricia Arquette conjured up a fearsome solution to the Russia/Ukraine conflict, she must have thought she was really on to something.
“Kick Russia out of NATO,” she declared in a powerful tweet.
No doubt, kicking Russia out of NATO would have an effect on Vladimir Putin.
We could also kick him out of the football Hall of Fame. He’s in neither (although he does have a ring)
Obviously, NATO is an alliance that was constituted to protect free nations from the Soviet Union and subsequently, Russia, so bringing Putin in would have been a novel idea - and probably fairly entertaining.
But Arquette has made her fortune playing make-believe and so we can’t really be surprised that she’s a know-nothing. She also runs in elite circles where the mindset is that luxury and largesse somehow correlate with intelligence and sophistication.
Obviously, she’s a fool, and that’s fine.
But some of the replies to her comments revealed a next-level manifestation of ignorance.
One guy named Daniel Tideman tried to throw Arquette a lifeline, tweeting, “Russia isn’t part of NATO. You might have meant to say the UN, in which case, yes, they should.”
Then, Daniel Tideman was hit with charges of “mansplaining,” by another tweeter, almost immediately.
But Daniel Tideman held firm against his attacker.
“Can you mansplain to me when Russia joined NATO,” he shot back.
Then, in swept a Twitter user named “cool guy” to clear things up.
“trick question, they never joined NATO they just took over the Soviet Union’s spot,” “cool guy",” declared.
A truth bomb is a truth bomb. Nice work, “cool guy.”
Twitter user, “Cecelia TU” joined the thread on a mission of peace.
“It was a mistake…we’re all battle fatigued. No need to pile on Ms. Arquette.”
Battle fatigued.
So here, already, we find ourselves in the rarified air of an absurdly idiotic space.
But this thought convention was not quite over.
When another Twitter user pointed out that not having been in a battle, Arquette cannot be fairly termed “battle fatigued,” yet a third entered the fray to bring a crucially important point to light.
“Point taken, but to be a woman is also a daily struggle,” proclaimed “KrysAnnTheMum.”
Boom.
Finis.
